One of my favorite memories growing up in the midwest was my Grandfathers corn meal mush. He had built himself a small kitchen in the corner of the basement of his farmhouse. This was his little sanctuary to fix the things he liked, plus his bottle of whiskey was hidden in the cabinet here. It's also where ole "Gib" would fry up his homemade scrapple in his big cast iron skillet (which I have and use most every day) and he would share with his little dog and who ever else might show up. As I've gotten older, I find myself reminiscing more...especially of those loved ones that have gone before us. I hope this piece brings back a special memory for you as well.
